Located in the Central Valley Region, Lomas al Río is a coffee mill that processes only the highest quality coffee. Currently the company has two main products: traditionally processed coffee and organic coffee, both produced under the strictest controls in the world. Whether you choose to follow tradition or to innovate, the results are sure to please you. Nevertheless, the tendency is leaning towards organically grown coffee which gives not only taste but additional values that pair up with the ecological mission of Lomas al Río.

Recipient of numerous international awards, Lomas al Río is recognized as having one of the best export qualities ever achieved.  More important to us than any organizational award, however, is that our customers can clearly taste the difference that our hard work makes from seed to cup.

Organic Coffee

Early quality control is key to assuring that every cup brewed from our coffee has an incredible flavor.  All of our coffee growers have to follow strict regulations to certify their coffee as organically grown. This means chemical free land will produce fully healthy plants to provide 100% organic cherries: the first step in a promising process.

Exceeding the industry standard by far, Lomas al Río not only requires well-tended and healthy plantations that guarantee a rich harvest; it demands a close partnership between the organic coffee growers and the Lomas al Río team.  The Lomas al Río team organizes and teaches seminars covering new and exciting procedures for the small and medium-sized producers who work with us in order to increase the quality of our coffee and the quality of life for the men and women who work tirelessly to bring us their cherries.

We keep the closest watch possible on the quality control of the coffee that arrives at our mill so that our world-class milling procedures do not go to waste.  This is the only way for us to meet the high expectations for quality and environmental concern that we have set for ourselves.

     
   
     
   
     
       

The Costa Rican Ministry of Agriculture named the Cafetalera Lomas al Río as the first organic coffee processing plant in the nation. Lomas al Río S.A. has complied with Eco-Lógica`s– the local certification agency for organic production of coffee– demanding standards in order to become certified for the processing of organic-coffee.

Every year we inspect the mill to confirm and test the quality of each process performed at the mill is executed, from water circulation to waste treatment. Despite the extraordinary quality that we have shown to possess at Lomas, we are never satisfied with merely maintaining the status quo.  Innovative technologies applied in the drying process and worm composting show our commitment to constantly improving the quality of the coffees produced here.

The commitment we have to our working philosophy requires real concentration, effort and ethical and moral guidelines to think forward and to break away from the sometimes individualistic concerns of the industry.  We have espoused a change in attitude and an educational philosophy that maintains that ecological coffee is not abandoned coffee but rather a product that needs to be constantly cared for.  Part of caring for our product is caring for the community that produces it, so we have done significant outreach into the community surrounding Lomas al Río.  Our work at Lomas provides us with riches beyond any kind of economic reward.

The constant and wise effort corresponding to the futuristic vision of the company also looks forward to spreading the environmental concern we have. Getting involved in the whole process, and taking care of every little detail has given us the opportunity to be a high quality export company,  reaching places around the world.
